God is compassionate to those in need. God saves the needy.
What an amazing concept! This is exactly opposite from our culture that tells us to put our own self forward.
It isn’t those who bring something to God. It is not those who have something to offer. It is those who come in need who find God.
God doesn’t rejoice in those who come to Him with their goodness – for who can compare their “goodness” to the goodness of God? No matter how good someone is – God is more pure, more Holy, more perfect, more just, more truthful, has more wisdom, and is more generous with compassion than we are.
We probably look pretty silly – offering and holding up our goodness to God.
Not only that, our goodness is tainted – for every time I’ve had pure, right, truly good intentions there are a thousand times I’ve had mixed motives. For every time I’ve had kind, gentle words, there are thousand times the words that have crossed my mind and often my lips are ones that I regret – words and thoughts I’m ashamed of and for which I’m thankful that God has provided for forgiveness and freedom.
God’s goodness exceeds ours. God gives in power and glory and majesty. God gives rain to the unjust and the just; He gives food and daylight and seasons to all; He is full of mercy, compassion, and grace to those who seek Him and even to those who don’t.
But God especially has compassion on the needy – for those who are brokenhearted and downcast.
Call upon this God and share with Him your needs. (It is in my times of need when I have humbled myself in desperate prayer on my knees that I have felt God’s presence the most.)
What burden do you need to have lifted?
God is waiting to show compassion to you. Just call on Him.
For He will deliver the needy who cry out,
the afflicted who have no one to help. Psalm 72:12
