Am I really so slow to understand the truth about my fallen nature?
I’m getting ready to change publishers and titles for Building Faith with Bible Pathway. I’ve been re-reading much of the material. The words about our “fallen nature” hit me. This is the nature we receive when we come into this world. This phrase is in my mind for several days.
Most of the time I think I have this vague assumption that – I’m fine – I just need to try harder, then surely, I can overcome my problematic ways. Just try a little harder and pray a little more.
A couple of days ago, I’m working on a task (for God) and get interrupted by someone. I get all flustered and I cuss at the problem. Twice. (Later I ask for forgiveness.)
And then it hit me – that’s my fallen nature! That’s the nature that only Christ can save me from. I have that nature because of Adam and Eve’s sin, so many years ago. That nature is in me – through and through – with or without my good intentions and good efforts.
There is nothing – absolutely nothing – but the death of Christ on the cross and His perfect life and resurrection that can resurrect me from that pitiful state! That is the real TRUTH about our fallen nature. That is the truth about MY fallen nature.
Oh Lord God, may you ever be praised and your name be glorified for your truth and SAVING GRACE.
Thank you for continuing to open your servant’s eyes to your glorious truth that is filled with grace and power. With your help and power, may my fallen nature and flesh be crucified, and may your resurrection life be given full reign in me.
“Therefore we have been buried with Him through baptism into death, so that as Christ was raised from the dead through the glory of the Father, so we too might walk in newness of life.” Romans 6:4 NASB
