You and I Doing the Missionary Stuff

By dcamomile | August 18, 2010 | Category: Various Topics to Live the Good News

A couple of years ago I traveled from Southwest Florida to Romania for a short mission trip with our church’s Recovery group called, Discovery. Yes – I was way out of my comfort zone. We had several meetings, prior to leaving, to help prepare us for what to expect and what we would be doing while there.

One of our leaders shared the question that he gets asked the most:

“When do we get to do the missionary stuff?”

His response? “Be quiet, alert, and aware, you’re doing it now.”

Then he shared the list of our most important missionary tasks:

  • Have humility (with everyone).
  • Be gracious.
  • Have flexibility, be willing to adjust.
  • Have a positive attitude.
  • No complaining.
  • Watch your tone of voice and body language, especially when you’re tired, hungry, or stressed.
  • Check your attitude and awareness level. Adapt.
  • Be aware of stress from unmet expectations.
  • God will use (and can use) what little you have to offer.
  • Remember – you’re doing the missionary stuff at all times.
  • And oh yeah. Share the good news of God every way you can, every time you can.

“Lord God these are the areas I struggle with the most! Help me to remember to slow down and allow Your Spirit to minister first, to me. Then use me as You see fit, to minister to others. Help me to know that trip, or no trip, these are to be my missionary tasks.”
