“The Father loves the Son and has placed everything in his hands. Whoever believes in the Son has eternal life….” John 3:35-36
Have you ever been with someone important at a special place or event where the security people mean business? As 
long as you stay with that person you’re okay. If anybody approaches you and asks who you are and what you’re doing there, you either reply, “I’m with him (or her),” or your friend replies, “They’re with me.” And you’re good to go. The security personnel who could haul you out in an instant, step back and give you due respect.
This is what our relationship with Jesus is to be like along with the privileges that come with our relationship with Him. We’re not special because we’re special. We’ve done nothing to earn our entrance into heaven and God’s Kingdom. Jesus has paid the sacrificial price and Jesus has done all to open the floodgates of blessings for us. We simply stand on what He’s done. We simply say, “I believe in all that He’s done. He’s paid my price that I couldn’t pay. I’m with Him.”
Certainly God loves everyone, but once we accept Christ it’s also true that we are loved and honored by God because we love and honor the Son. We are loved and honored because we have accepted our rightful place in the scheme of things (humbled ourselves) and we accept and agree that what God says (backed by proof and evidence) is true. If we say we love the Son, but don’t follow His Words and seek to know His words then we really don’t honor Him. Do we really love Him? Do our lives reflect it?
When I was in Romania, I was on a train filled with a crushing amount of people – inside the train and outside at every stop we made. I was standing close to one of our guides. At one train stop, she thought she was going to have to step off the train for a minute to allow the people behind her to disembark and then get back on. I knew that when the train doors shut – they shut. I was not planning on being left behind on the train without her. I could not speak the language, I had no idea where I was, and not even any real idea of where I was staying because I hadn’t made the arrangements. I only knew that I was with her. I knew that I needed to stay close to my friend at all costs. I had a hold of her and said “If you get off, I’m getting off.”
Surely we are to stay that tight to Jesus. Our thoughts should be, “Don’t let me get separated from you, Lord God!” And God says that once we have given ourselves over to Him, He has His hand on our lives.
The two verses in their entirety read as follows:
“The Father loves the Son and has placed everything in his hands. Whoever believes in the Son has eternal life, but whoever rejects the Son will not see life, for God’s wrath remains on him.” John 3:35-36
Even though I’m a Christian, this passage still brings (a healthy amount of) fear to me. Without God and the provisions of Christ, I’m lost – and the picture isn’t pretty.
But once I’m with God and all that God has placed in the hands of Christ – all privileges and blessings are mine. May we seek to know the Son, whom God has entrusted with all things. May we seek to stay ever so close and tight to Him.
