Don’t Give Up – If You Want to Read the Bible
Maybe you’ve tried to read the Bible before and given up. I encourage you – try again.
Don’t quit. Keep trying. Persevere. Find a way to read the Bible that works for you, because there are faith-increasing and life-giving – promises and surprises – in store for you if you don’t give up.
Yes, I’m a Christian who loves God and follows Christ. I know that God is at work in me. But there are times that I’ve struggled with God and with His Word. Usually when life or His Word get hard. I know I’m not alone in this, because God tells me so. Jesus’ followers also struggled.
John 6:60, The Amplified Bible says it this way, “When His disciples heard this, many of them said, This is a hard and difficult and strange saying (an offensive and unbearable message). Who can stand to hear it? [Who can be expected to listen to such” teaching?]“
So I may struggle, but I’m like Peter. When Jesus asked the twelve if they, too, wanted to leave him, Peter replied “Lord, to whom shall we go? You have words of eternal life. We have believed and have come to know that You are the Holy One of God.” (John 6:67-69 NASB)
God tells us His ways are hugely different than our ways (Isaiah 55:8-9). So of course, reading the Bible will at times be difficult. Not only that, but the Bible can pack a lot into each sentence, each chapter, each book. It packs a lot in a small space. For these reasons it’s quite possible that we can end up with more questions than we started with. But we trust and seek God to help us move forward, ever closer to Him. We stick with God, persevere, and seek Him and He does amazing things in us and through us.
God says that need His help and Him drawing us towards Himself. He also promises that all who seek Him shall find Him. And those who ask receive.
So these are the sparks of encouragement that I’ll leave you with on this post, concerning reading the Bible-
Don’t give up when the going gets hard AND ask God for His help.
Keep seeking God, don’t give up. Repeat daily.
